Amalgam Fillings from the Holistic Dentistry Perspective

The use of amalgam fillings is something that has become more controversial in the past, especially with the fact that there are a lot of people who are just waking up to holistic dentistry. Because of this reason, it is important to understand what makes the difference between the holistic dentist and some of the other normal dentists. You can already imagine, perhaps from prior experience or just reading a lot about this, that the legitimate biological dentist does not necessarily focus on fillings. The reason for this is because the fillings are made up of up to 50% mercury, which in itself is harmful to the body. Therefore it beats the common logic, to understand why a patient would allow such a substance to be set inside their mouths, and have it in there for as long as possible.

Amalgam fillings have always been the standard for this practice. This is in fact besides the reality that there has been controversy around their usage since the 1880s. Indeed, the controversy behind the amalgam fillings is not something new, it is something that has existed for quite some time. However, in 2007, the US Department of Health and Human Services promptly listed mercury as one of the hazardous substances, which should have pretty much ended the speculation about the use of mercury in the body. As a matter of fact, the US Department of Health and Human Services declared mercury the third most dangerous substance of all those that they were examining at the time.

The problem lies in the fact that a lot of people; millions to be precise, do have and some still proceed to have mercury in their mouths. The obvious remedy would be to have it removed, but this is not always the safest alternative. The reason for this is because removal must be done in a safe manner. Safety in this case means making sure that the mercury that is in the amalgam does not leak to the rest of the body through the bloodstream. Even the individuals working in the dentist’s office are also at risk, because mercury from the amalgams could leak into the air, and they could breathe it in, or even touch it, which also puts their lives at risk.

The amalgam used in this procedure is supposed to have a clear disclaimer notice emblazoned on it, that it has the potential to cause nephrotoxic and neurotic reactions, which are indeed serious. There is also the fact that the amalgam fillings may cause issues with reproduction, and birth defects.

Of course the use of amalgam fillings is a procedure that has stood the test of time, really strong and can also resist abrasion, but there are better alternatives, like composite, which just works as well and is safer. It will also last for years without you having to worry about any challenges. As a patient, it is therefore a realistic choice for you to work closely with a real holistic dentist.
